A forbidden attraction… A hidden desire!
Years ago, penniless Lorene Summerfield wed for duty, giving her siblings the chance to marry for love. But now the generous-hearted countess finds herself widowed…and the man she’s loved in silence for years is falsely accused of her husband’s murder!
Although he closed his heart to love long ago, the Earl of Penford has always found Lorene irresistible. Their newly ignited passion may be scandalous, but now he’ll stop at nothing to clear his name and win Lorene’s hand!
This story all seemed to linger on a kiss… But what’s in a kiss? I felt the prelude to the first kiss between our hero and heroine highlighted just how deeply they were hiding their true feelings and emotions from society least they be condemned for acting on them.
“… Tension swirled through the room like the morning mist through the woods.” This quote aptly sums up how this book was written. Some parts left me breathless whereas others were a delightful slow-burn.
The story had lows and highs but had a constant tension. 4/5 stars from me.
